17 thousand jobs are available in Belgium


Employment in Belgium is far more than reasonable, although unemployment among young people remains a problem. Generally good working conditions, Belgian labor laws give employees wide rights after 12 months of continuous work - and thus on a large sector of the able-bodied population who still find themselves working on temporary contracts.

Echo and De Tijd today revealed that 17,000 vacancies remain available in Belgium, according to the major sectoral federations interviewed.

According to the non-exhaustive statistics conducted by the two newspapers based on information gleaned from a number of sectoral federations (in technology, automotive, nutrition, pharmaceutical chemicals and road transport), the total number of vacant posts could exceed 17,000.

More highly skilled workers, such as engineers, as well as people with low level of qualification, but with specific skills such as roof builders or machine drivers used in construction sites, are being researched. In some cases, lack of experience is no longer a problem. In the chemistry and life sciences (pharmaceuticals and biotechnology) sector, where employment is increasing markedly, 20% of vacancies do not require any experience.

According to a study conducted by Robert Half, 92% of HR officials in the country are struggling to find qualified professionals.

There are several types of labor contracts that are commonly used in Belgium. There are different contracts for manual workers and white-collar workers. In addition, there are separate contracts for domestic workers, student workers, professional sports people and domestic workers.
